5 Quotes To Practice & Live By

During this year of sobriety and saving as much cash money as I possibly can for the adventures to come, my latest project has been “myself.” Not one of us in this grand world, not even Ryan Gosling or Beyonce, are perfect beings. So I think it’s safe to say that we’re all just a work in progress. Over the years, I’ve stumbled upon some incredible quotes about life, happiness, productivity, and so forth. I’d like to share some of the ones that I’m currently practicing.

When it comes to money, I’ve always been a bit frugal to put it lightly. Don’t believe me? I canceled a bank card that had $0.79 left on it, and when they asked if I’d like a check mailed to me, I was like, “heck yeah!” However, when it comes to utilizing my time well, I’m pretty good at wasting it. There’s no telling when it will run out, so I’ve been making an effort to spend less time bingeing Netflix and scrolling through social media, and more of it working towards goals and socializing with loved ones… in person.

I know, I know. We all need to vent every once in a while. It’s terribly unhealthy to bottle up emotions. I’ve done my share of bitching and moaning, but I’m currently making an effort towards complaining less, and being more proactive when facing every day conflicts. If the issue is entirely out of my hands, I try to get over it and view it from a different perspective. Even the worst experiences in life can lay the groundwork for better opportunities.

When you suffer from depression, you tend to spend a good deal of time beating yourself up and believing that you aren’t worthy and capable. This negative mindset can prevent a person from pursuing their goals, since they feel like it’s attempting the impossible. It’s been challenging, but I’ve been trying the “fake it ’til you make it” -attitude in an attempt to convince myself that if I work hard enough towards anything I wish to accomplish, I can succeed. I have been known to surprise myself on a few occasions in the past, so I’d like to believe that changing my attitude can change future outcomes.

I wouldn’t consider myself old, but let’s just say on more than one occasion I’ve felt that I had gotten a delayed start on the things I wanted in life. Thoughts like:

“I should have taken better care of my health sooner.”

“I should have traveled earlier.”

“I shouldn’t have waited so long to conquer my fears.”

The past can’t be re-written, but what I can do is start enjoying every blessing in the present, and start creating a fulfilling future.

Why worry? It’s a complete waste of energy.  I often used to stress over things I shouldn’t. Most commonly over how others think about me. I also dwelled frequently over worst-case scenarios that never even materialized. I still experience random bouts of anxiety over frivolous matters, but I’m getting better at letting those feelings come and go. Many things in life are completely out of our hands. We can only control our own actions, and try to be the best person that we can be by our own standards.
