CDT Bound!

Washington. I like you! The North Cascades are dope! And the Stehekin #bakery lived up to the hype. Lucky for my wallet, my hiker hunger isn’t on full blast yet. A lot has gone wrong on this trip, but at least the views haven’t let me down!
Here we go again! Take 2! 🙃 After finally walking along this section’s narrow ridges, I’m super glad we didn’t do it in the snow back in July! Due to snow and fire, this thru hike has been quite the journey so far. However, we’ve accumulated an awesome new tramily, ran into old tramily members along the way, and have had the best hospitality from Mama Lion and Raven at Raven’s Roost during both visits to Mazama. 🥰 Here’s hoping the fires mellow out so we can connect our footpath as much as possible! 🤞
Castle Crags has been my favorite section so far! We’ve seen a lot of wildlife and great sunsets on the way. Sadly we’ve run into some wildfires after reaching Etna, so we’ve decided to flip… yet again! We’re heading back to Mazama to head SOBO so we can avoid a lot of skipping around. The adventure continues. 😬
Blasted through the Burn Zone to Burney! Glad to be done and hoping that’s the last of it. We took a couple side trails to check out the Subway Cave (lava tube) and Burney Falls. There’s been a ton of trail magic from OG, Shine and Magic Man (You guys are awesome!), and we even went bowling. Life’s good!
We’ve been hiking around some pretty rad people while making our way through the burn zone between Quincy and Belden. Trying to keep hydrated in this heat has been a challenge to say the least, but we’ll keep on doing what we do! 🔨👇
So stoked to hang out with Dan from the MD and to run into #cdt2021 homies out here, especially two of our trail brothers, Ricochet and Wild Turkey. @half.full.hi.z who we hitched with from the border also caught up to us in Sierra City! The trail’s been pretty exposed. I’ve seen a few rattlers, or I should say, they found me. No one else I spoke to was so lucky. The burn zone lies ahead, but it’s been like a fairy land, or “Smurf village” as Turkey put it. 😂
It only took 10 hitches over 2 1/2 days and we made it to Truckee. I was so happy to go through Desolation Wilderness a second time, this time without smoke. So far, the trail has been mellow, the views have been plentiful, and I’m so thrilled to be back out here!
This SOBO thru hike hasn’t gone as planned. The northwest was blasted with snow late in spring, most of Washington and Oregon are covered, and likely won’t melt til August. I really just wanted to enjoy my triple crown hike on one of the most talked about and beloved long trails in the country. After touching the northern terminus via the low route July 1st, we decided to hitchhike to Tahoe and head north with a few others in tow. Instead of slogging through the snow feeling frustrated and fatigued, I want to have fun out here. If flipping is necessary to accomplish this goal, so be it. I never thought I’d Flip Flop a trail, but here we are! 🙃
Hung out with the creatures of the night just before touching Waterton, then tripped out over the #pacificnorthwesttrail all the way to Chief Mountain. That about sums up the end of the #cdt2021 Now it’s time to finally knab that 👑 👑 👑 on the #pct2022 Hammer down!
